History of Scanalytics

In 1988, Signal Analytics Corp. was founded to integrate image analysis systems for scientific imaging applications. Signal Analytics chose Apple's Macintosh line of computers as the primary platform for its systems. The company's first commercial product, IPLab, introduced in February 1990, was a grayscale scientific image processing software package which formed the basis for all future software and systems products.

In August 1990, the company forged new ground with its introduction of IPLab for Macintosh, a true color image processing package for scientists. IPLab-Mac found wide support in such diverse scientific imaging fields as light and electron microscopy, medical imaging, 3D deconvolution, laser beam analysis, gel analysis, remote sensing and astronomy where high accuracy imaging is involved. The company continued to develop IPLab-Mac and introduced related software products for scientific imaging users. These products now include 3D Volume View for three dimensional display and analysis of fluorescence image data, Fluorescence Colocalization and Visualization, and Motion Control for microscope positioning automation and device control.

In January 1997, Signal Analytics produced IPLab for Windows which operates in the Windows 98/2000/XP operating systems. IPLab-Windows was written from the ground up as a full 32-bit Windows application to take advantage of the advanced speed and memory usage features of the Windows platform. Now users who have both Macintoshes and PCs in their laboratories will feel comfortable using IPLab on either platform.

In June, 1997, Signal Analytics Corp. merged with Scanalytics, the biological imaging division of CSP, Inc. (Billerica, MA), to form a new corporation, Scanalytics, Inc. The Scanalytics division of CSP, Inc. was established in 1989 and served the bio-imaging market with Windows-based gel analysis products for scientists in the life sciences research, biotech, pharmaceutical, and forensic markets. The merger combined the complementary product lines of Signal Analytics and Scanalytics, which allowed the new company to offer dual-platform solutions for gel electrophoresis analysis and 2-D and 3-D fluorescence microscopy.

Effective July 1, 2005, the assets of Scanalytics Inc. were acquired by BD Biosciences, a division of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company). BD Biosciences is one of the world's largest businesses focused on bringing innovative research and clinical tools to life scientists and clinicians and is commited to developing life science based imaging products and software.
